Novena to the Blood of Christ

After his visions and mystical experiences, Bartolomeo da Saluzzo stated that everything for which we ask God, invoking the Blood of Christ, will be heard. “There is nothing, brothers, that Almighty God would not grant you, if you ask Him perseveringly, in the name of the holy Blood of Jesus.” “When you ask for a grace, pray as follows: ‘O Father, O Son, O Holy Spirit, O Most Holy Trinity, O most pure Virgin Mary, all saints of heaven, I ask for this grace through the shed Blood of my Savior Jesus Christ!’”

The Blood of Jesus drives away demons, breaks all curses, and destroys every work of evil. This holy Blood heals and delivers, transforms and sanctifies. Fr. Bartholomew wrote the novena to the Blood of Christ after a powerful mystical experience in which he saw its effects and miraculous power. “It is the source of our salvation, it is the foundation of life, it is the defense against every darkness.” In modern times, this novena was revived precisely by Father Gabriele Amorth, the Roman exorcist, who himself, from his own experience, presents it as an extraordinarily effective means in the battle against visible and invisible enemies alike. How should this novena be prayed? Each day, seven invocations to the Virgin Mary are recited, invoking the holy shed Blood of her Son Jesus Christ. It is recommended to pray for a specific person.
The first novena, that is, the first nine consecutive days, is prayed for the intention of the gift of salvation for the given person. The second consecutive novena, the next nine days, is prayed for the intention of the conversion of that person.
This very form of prayer is especially effective. In the same way, we may pray for our enemies as well as for our closest family members or for the dying. What is essential, however, is to preserve the order of the recommended intentions: 1. for the gift of salvation for the person, 2. for the gift of conversion for the person. During the novena, we may also have a Holy Mass offered for the given intention.

Day 1

Novena to the Blood of Christ

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O immense and eternal Divine Majesty, most Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit! I, your creature, humbly adore you and praise you with the greatest reverence and love that your creatures are able to give you. In your presence, in the presence of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of heaven, before the sight of my guardian angel, my holy patrons, and the whole heavenly court, I declare that this prayer and urgent supplication, which I am about to make to the compassionate and merciful Virgin Mary through the merits of the most precious Blood of Jesus, I wish to offer with an honorable intention for your glory, for the salvation of my soul and the soul of my neighbor. Therefore I hope that from you, my loving God and Lord, the highest Good, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin, I shall obtain the grace for which I humbly ask through the infinite merits of the most pure Blood of Jesus. What else can I do in the situation in which I find myself, except sincerely confess to you, my God, all my sins which I have committed until now, and ask for their forgiveness and for the cleansing of soul and body in the most precious Blood of Jesus. Yes, my God, I repent of them with all my heart, not out of fear of hell, which I justly deserve, but only because I have offended You, the highest Good, perfect Love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your holy grace, that in the future I shall offend you no more and shall avoid every occasion of sin. Have mercy, Lord, and forgive me! Amen.

Under your protection I take refuge, holy Mother of God; do not turn away from the prayer which my heart presents to you through my lips, O glorious and blessed Virgin, look upon your pleading child!

O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory be to the Father….

You are all beautiful, O Mary, and there is no stain in you! You are the purest Virgin, Queen of heaven and earth, Mother of God. I greet you, I honor you, and I bless you forever. O Mary, to you I flee, you I invoke. Help me, Mother of God, help me, Queen of heaven, help me, Refuge of sinners, help me, Mother of my sweetest Jesus. It has never been heard that anyone failed to receive what he asked of you through the power of the suffering of your divine Son Jesus Christ: therefore with living faith I ask you, grant me the grace that lies upon my heart. I ask this of you through the divine Blood which Jesus shed for our salvation. I will not cease to call upon you until you hear me. O Mother of mercy, I fully trust that I shall obtain this grace, because I ask it of you through the infinite merits of the most pure Blood of your most beloved Son. Amen.

Sweetest Mother, through the merits of the holy Blood of Jesus, grant me the grace …(here express what you ask for) Amen.

1. I humbly ask you for it, most holy Mother, through that pure, innocent, and blessed Blood which Jesus shed in tender age, during his circumcision, eight days after birth. Hail Mary..

O Virgin Mary, through the merits of the most holy Blood of your divine Son, intercede for me with the heavenly Father. Amen.

O Virgin Mary, through the merits of the most holy Blood of your divine Son, intercede for me with the heavenly Father. Amen.

4. I fervently ask you for it, most holy Virgin Mary, through that pure, innocent, and blessed Blood which flowed from Jesus' head when he was mercilessly crowned with sharp thorns. Hail Mary..

O Virgin Mary, through the merits of the most holy Blood of your divine Son, intercede for me with the heavenly Father. Amen.

5. Full of trust I ask you for it, most holy Virgin Mary, through that pure, innocent, and blessed Blood which Jesus shed during his sorrowful journey to Calvary, and especially through that living Blood mingled with the tears which you shed when you faithfully accompanied him unto the supreme sacrifice. Hail Mary..

O Virgin Mary, through the merits of the most holy Blood of your divine Son, intercede for me with the heavenly Father. Amen.

6. I urgently ask you for it, most holy Virgin Mary, through that pure, innocent, and blessed Blood which Jesus poured out from his hands and feet when he was mercilessly nailed to the cross with hard nails. I ask you for it especially through the Blood which he shed during his sorrowful and tormenting agony. Hail Mary..

O Virgin Mary, through the merits of the most holy Blood of your divine Son, intercede for me with the heavenly Father. Amen.

7. Hear me, most pure Virgin and Mother Mary, through that sweetest and mystical Blood and water which flowed from Jesus' side at the moment when his heart was pierced with a lance. Through that most pure Blood, grant me, O most holy Mother, the grace for which I so fervently ask through that most precious Blood, which I deeply love and which is my drink at the Lord's banquet. Hear me, compassionate and sweet Virgin Mary. Hail Mary..

O Virgin Mary, through the merits of the most holy Blood of your divine Son, intercede for me with the heavenly Father. Amen.

All you angels and saints of heaven, who behold the glory of God, join your prayers to the prayer of the dear Mother and most holy Queen Mary, and obtain from the heavenly Father the grace for which I humbly ask through the merits of the precious Blood of our divine Redeemer. To you also I turn, holy souls in purgatory, that you
may pray for me and ask the heavenly Father for the grace for which I earnestly plead through that most pure Blood which my and your Savior poured forth from his most holy wounds. I too offer to the heavenly Father for you the most precious Blood of Jesus, that you may fully rejoice in Him and praise him forever in heavenly glory with the song: “You have redeemed us, Lord, by your Blood and made us a kingdom for our God.” Amen.
O good and loving Lord, gentle and merciful, have mercy on me and on all souls, living and deceased, whom you have redeemed by your most precious Blood. Blessed be the most holy Blood of Jesus now and forever! Amen.

Sweetest Mother, through the merits of the most pure Blood of your divine Son grant me the grace that my brother/sister (we say the name of the person for whom we ask )… may be saved at the end of his/her earthly life, so that he/she may come to thank you in the heavenly Jerusalem and with you praise Jesus and thank him. AMEN.
