Novena to the Holy Spirit

Novena to the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit, as the third Divine Person, is most often associated with the feast of Pentecost - the Descent of the Holy Spirit. This short novena is meant to help us open ourselves to the action of the Holy Spirit. Let us pray with trust to the Spirit, the Consoler.

We are not able to understand Jesus without the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit builds and guides the Church and reminds her of her mission. He calls people to the service of the Church and bestows on them the necessary gifts. He leads us ever more deeply into communion with the Triune God. The Holy Spirit keeps the Church as a whole in the truth and leads her to an ever deeper knowledge of God.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, counsel, understanding, knowledge, fortitude, piety, and fear of God. Novena to the Most Holy Name of Jesus

Novena to the Most Holy Name of Jesus

We have listened to and repeated the Holy Name of Jesus from childhood, but unfortunately, many, very many people do not have an adequate idea of the great wonders of this Holy Name!

What do you know about the Name of Jesus? You know that it is a Holy Name and that we must bow our heads with devout reverence when we pronounce it. But that is actually very little. It would be as if you looked at a closed book and only glanced at the title on the cover. As yet you know nothing of the beautiful passages written in the book itself. Similarly, when you merely pronounce the Name of Jesus, you have not yet recognized all the great and mystical treasures hidden in it.

This Divine Name is in reality a mine of wealth; it is the source of the highest holiness and the secret of the greatest happiness that man can hope to experience on this side of heaven. Read and see...

It is so powerful that it never fails and that it produces the most marvelous results in our souls. It consoles the saddest heart and strengthens the weakest sinner. It obtains for us all kinds of graces and favors, spiritual as well as temporal.

There are two things we must do. First of all, we must clearly understand the meaning and value of the Name of Jesus.

Secondly, we must accustom ourselves to say it devoutly and often, hundreds and hundreds of times every day. It will not be a burden at all, but an immense joy and consolation.

Say it with us, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!"

Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a special form of devotion to the physical heart of Jesus. It is the love that He shares with the Father and the Holy Spirit toward humanity. In the eleventh and twelfth centuries, devotion to the Sacred Heart arose in Benedictine and Cistercian monasteries. From the thirteenth to the sixteenth centuries, this devotion was practiced by various congregations, such as the Franciscans, Dominicans, and Carthusians, but it remained an individual or private devotion. Saint Eudes made it public in the seventeenth century, introduced an office for it, and established a feast. He shared devotion to the Sacred Heart together with his devotion to the Immaculate Heart. Gradually these devotions became separated, and the first feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was celebrated on August 31, 1670. On December 27, 1673, on the feast of Saint John, Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, a sister in the Monastery of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in France, had visions of Jesus. He [Jesus] asked her to promote devotion to His Sacred Heart, symbolic of His love for humanity. Jesus added twelve promises for those who practice devotion to His Sacred Heart, including peace in families, comfort in times of hardship, abundant blessings, and refuge at the hour of death. At the instruction of Pope Leo XIII in 1899, the whole human race was solemnly consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Novena to Divine Mercy

Our Lord gave Sister Faustina (originally only for her) the novena of His Mercy. She was to begin it on Good Friday, that wondrous day when Christ first revealed how merciful and loving He is, in that He died for us.

Sister Faustina wrote in her diary that she began to pray the novena for the conversion of the whole world, so that all might come to know the Divine Mercy and that all souls might speak of His Goodness.

Jesus said: "I desire the trust of My people. Let not even the weak and very sinful be afraid to approach Me; even if their sins were as many as all the grains of sand on the earth, they will be forgiven in the inexhaustible abyss of My Mercy."

She received instructions on how to make this novena: "During these nine days I want you to lead souls to the Fountain of My Mercy, that they may draw from it strength, refreshment, and all the graces they need in the trials of life, especially at the hour of death. Each day you will bring a different group of souls and immerse them in the sea of My Mercy. Each day you will beg the Father for graces for these souls."

This novena may be prayed at any time, but best beginning on Good Friday in preparation for the feast of His Mercy, which should be celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter.

He said to her: "The souls that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on that day shall obtain complete forgiveness of all sins and punishments. Each day you will bring to My Heart a different group of souls and immerse them in this ocean of My Mercy, and I will bring all these souls into the house of My Father. Each day you will beg My Father for graces for these souls."

30-Day Novena of Devotion to the Lord’s Passion

Judas’s betrayal of Jesus was followed by a deep burden for Jesus. The burden consisted in the fact that He would soon go to the cross, where He would be separated from God, because He bore the punishment for the sinners whom He would save. It was a heavy burden, because He was covenantally separated from His Father. It was too much for Him to bear alone, and so He prayed.

Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and He said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with Him. And sorrow and distress came upon Him. Then He said to them, “My soul is sorrowful even unto death. Remain here and keep watch with Me!” Going a little farther, He fell on His face and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.” When He returned to the disciples, He found them asleep. And He said to Peter, “So, could you not keep watch with Me for one hour? Watch and pray, that you may not enter into temptation! The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Again He went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass unless I drink it, Your will be done.” And when He returned, He found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy with fatigue. Leaving them, He went away again and prayed a third time, saying the same words. Then He came to the disciples and said to them, “Sleep on now and take your rest! Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going! See, My betrayer is at hand.” (Matthew 26:36–46)

Novena to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque

Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, a French Roman Catholic nun and mystic, is highly esteemed for her devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque had visions of Jesus Christ for most of her life, yet she thought these were a normal part of life and continued practicing asceticism.

After the death of her father, Margaret and her family were forced to live in poverty when a relative refused to hand over the family property. Margaret’s only comfort in life consisted in frequent visits for prayer before the Blessed Sacrament in the local church.

In one of her visions, she was instructed to spend an hour every Thursday night meditating on Jesus’ sufferings in the Garden of Gethsemane, which later spread and became known as the “Holy Hour.”

Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque is the patron saint of devotees of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and of those who suffer from polio and the loss of parents. Surrender Novena

Father Pio once said to Fr. Dolindo Ruotolo (1882–1970): "All of Heaven is in your soul." His name "Dolindo" means "pain," and his life was truly marked by great suffering. He endured it as a child, a young man, a seminarian, and a priest. Throughout his life he bore one humiliation after another to such an extent that the prophetic words of a certain bishop were fulfilled in him: "You will be martyrs, not martyrs of blood, but of the heart." In his immense suffering, Dolindo became a child who entrusted himself more and more to the heavenly Father.

"I am a poor nothing! My strength is in prayer, my guide is the will of God, by which I let myself be led by the hand. My certainty on this uneven path is the Heavenly Mother Mary." These words full of trust were rewarded by God with an extraordinary intimacy, through which he spoke to the spirit of this humble priest. Read the following words, which Jesus gives us for the trials of each one of us, as if Jesus were speaking them to you alone. When it seems to you that the Lord is sleeping in the boat, approach him in the midst of the storm with complete trust and surrender of everything to him, knowing that he himself will surely help you.

Source: modlitba.sk; image: slovoplus.sk

Novena to Our Lady of Pompeii

On March 3, 1884, Our Lady of Pompeii appeared before the gravely ill daughter of an Italian military officer. Through her, the Blessed Virgin Mary gave the world the miraculous devotion of the 54-day Rosary. For more than a year, Fortuna Agrelli suffered from a serious illness, even to the brink of death. Her condition was so grave that the most renowned physicians already considered her a hopeless case. In desperation, on February 16, the sick girl and her family decided to begin a Rosary novena.

Two weeks later, one evening, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary, appeared to Fortuna. She sat on a high throne, surrounded by radiant figures, holding the Divine Child in her arms and a rosary in her hand. Both were clothed in golden garments, and they were accompanied by Saints Dominic and Catherine of Siena.

The Blessed Virgin Mary said: "Child, your faith has pleased me. Whoever wishes to obtain graces from me should make three novenas of Rosary prayers and three novenas of thanksgiving."

Obedient to the invitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Fortuna and her family completed the six novenas, during which the young girl was completely healed and her family was bestowed with many blessings.

This novena is prayed for 54 days. To obtain a grace, three novenas of 9 days each must be made. Then it is necessary to make another three novenas in thanksgiving. Altogether, 27 days of Rosary prayers are needed to obtain the grace and 27 days of Rosary prayers in thanksgiving. That means 54 days in total.

Source of the prayers: catholicdoors.com; image: ghirelli.com

Tuesday Novena to St. Martha

This biblical saint, who had the honor of being the hostess of the Lord Jesus on several occasions, is the model and heavenly patroness of all diligent housewives. (feast: July 29)

Martha lived with her sister Mary and brother Lazarus in the village of Bethany, east of Jerusalem. From the Gospel account it is evident that this was a good and devout family, with whom Jesus had a very friendly relationship. He probably stopped with these friends of his when he was going to Jerusalem or when he was leaving the Holy City.

Martha of Bethany, the sister of Lazarus and Mary, cared for the bodily well-being of her guest Jesus. At her fervent pleas, Jesus raised the dead Lazarus. We celebrate the feast of St. Martha on July 29.

This novena is prayed on Tuesdays - 9 times

Source of texts: fisheaters.com; image: catholicsaintmedals.com

Novena to Our Lady of Sorrows

The origin of devotion to Mary’s sorrows is found in the Christian East. Among its pioneers was Saint Ephrem the Syrian. In the 13th century, devotion to the Sorrowful Mother was spread by the Servite Order (Order of the Servants of Mary), and sometime toward the end of the Middle Ages the hymn Stabat Mater (The Sorrowful Mother Stood) came into being. If you like Gregorian chant, we recommend listening to this hymn in Latin.

The Virgin Mary had 7 sorrows:

The first sorrow of the Virgin Mary was Simeon’s prophecy about Jesus, when He was offered in the Temple at 40 days old. This sorrow could be called the sorrow caused by a word spoken about a loved one. Mary received from Simeon the Word of prophecy about the suffering of her Son. A word that wounded her and did not let her sleep until it was fulfilled. We can identify with Mary when we too hear a word that wounds us: an incurable illness, or that the child to be born to us will not be healthy, or some other bad news. These are moments of union with our mother Mary.

The second sorrow was the flight into Egypt. This was a sorrow caused by the uncertain fate of a loved one. There are many things that cause uncertainty for us or for our loved ones regarding the future: unemployment, financial hardship, injustice, the rule or rampage of evil people. These are moments when we bear the same lot as the Holy Family. Here too, one must not lose hope that evil may be turned into good.

The third sorrow is the search for Jesus in the Temple. This was a sorrow caused by the loss of a loved one. Whenever our children or other loved ones are lost to us, whether through moral decline, loss of faith, or simply by going, like Jesus, along a path we do not understand, we experience the sorrows that Mary and Joseph experienced. Here too, we should not be passive, but reflect on what can still be done so that things—or we ourselves—may change.

The fourth sorrow was meeting Jesus on the Way of the Cross. For her, this was a sorrow caused by the humiliation and shaming of a loved one. There is no greater pain than the loss of honor, which is shown when people mock us or our loved ones, despise us, or consider us or them as nothing. Or they are unable to accept us simply because we have certain gifts that they themselves do not have—and therefore they diplomatically push us “into a corner.” This can happen when we are justly or unjustly accused of something, or when a person falls ill with a mental illness that completely changes the essence of his personality. It is hard for us to stand by and watch a person suffer in this way.

The fifth sorrow was the sight of Jesus dying on the Cross. This was a sorrow from the suffering of a loved one. Jesus suffered and Mary could do nothing. This suffering takes place in our lives when we see a loved one suffer: physically, mentally, and spiritually. We see his pain, his distress, his sleepless nights, and we cannot help; we can only watch. What does help, however, is even simple presence, as in the case of Mary and Jesus.

The sixth sorrow was receiving the dead Jesus from the Cross into her lap. This was a sorrow from the death of a loved one. Mary experienced the greatest loss of her life. Jesus lay dead in the lap from which He had been born. There are many forms of death of which our life is made up until definitive death comes. We must die to things, relationships, addictions, attachments, ourselves, our own ego. And this so that life may develop better and more fully within us.

The seventh sorrow of the Virgin Mary was the placing of Jesus’ body in the tomb. This is the sorrow of separation from a loved one. In our lives too there are painful separations; some are temporary, some definitive, for example death. It is a matter of faith to accept the fact that not even by death does life, and therefore neither do our relationships, come to an end, but only their form changes. And one day we shall meet again. Mary was firmly convinced of this reality. Therefore even before the sealed tomb she did not lose hope. Indeed, we might say that she was perhaps the only one who did not believe that the tomb had the last word in the life of her Son. Therefore the news of the Resurrection could hardly have surprised her. This is a lesson for us as well: death is not the end, death is the beginning. And therefore we live our life in hope.

Source of texts: modlitba.sk; image: zachej.sk

Novena to the Blood of Christ

After his visions and mystical experiences, Bartolomeo da Saluzzo stated that everything for which we ask God, invoking the Blood of Christ, will be heard. “There is nothing, brothers, that Almighty God would not grant you, if you ask Him perseveringly, in the name of the holy Blood of Jesus.” “When you ask for a grace, pray as follows: ‘O Father, O Son, O Holy Spirit, O Most Holy Trinity, O most pure Virgin Mary, all saints of heaven, I ask for this grace through the shed Blood of my Savior Jesus Christ!’”

The Blood of Jesus drives away demons, breaks all curses, and destroys every work of evil. This holy Blood heals and delivers, transforms and sanctifies. Fr. Bartholomew wrote the novena to the Blood of Christ after a powerful mystical experience in which he saw its effects and miraculous power. “It is the source of our salvation, it is the foundation of life, it is the defense against every darkness.” In modern times, this novena was revived precisely by Father Gabriele Amorth, the Roman exorcist, who himself, from his own experience, presents it as an extraordinarily effective means in the battle against visible and invisible enemies alike. How should this novena be prayed? Each day, seven invocations to the Virgin Mary are recited, invoking the holy shed Blood of her Son Jesus Christ. It is recommended to pray for a specific person.
The first novena, that is, the first nine consecutive days, is prayed for the intention of the gift of salvation for the given person. The second consecutive novena, the next nine days, is prayed for the intention of the conversion of that person.
This very form of prayer is especially effective. In the same way, we may pray for our enemies as well as for our closest family members or for the dying. What is essential, however, is to preserve the order of the recommended intentions: 1. for the gift of salvation for the person, 2. for the gift of conversion for the person. During the novena, we may also have a Holy Mass offered for the given intention.

Source of texts: modlitba.sk image: virgosacrata.com

Novena to St. Francis of Assisi

Saint Francis of Assisi is the founder of the Franciscan Order. He is the patron of Italy, ecologists, merchants, the poor, the lame, the blind, prisoners, shipwrecked persons, weavers, cloth merchants, tailors, social workers, environmental protectors; against plague and headaches.

The desire to become like Christ compels him to mortify his body, to pray, to continually relive the Lord's Passion and to recall the events of His life, to contemplate the mystery of His Incarnation. At Christmas in 1223 he adores Christ in the manger at Greccio, where he prepared a living Nativity scene, and thus laid the foundation of today's Christmas tradition. He also follows Jesus to Calvary, which for him became Mount Alverna. Two years before his death, Jesus bestowed upon him the stigmata – the marks of His Passion. At that time Francis had almost gone blind and was staying near the church of St. Damian. Here, in great suffering, he receives from God the assurance of his eternal salvation. Filled with joy, he composes the Canticle of "Brother Sun." The earthly life of St. Francis ended on October 3, 1226, at the Portiuncula, in the place that Francis especially loved. He dies surrounded by the brothers, blessing also those who are yet to enter the Order.

Novena to Saint Charbel

St. Charbel is currently among the most beloved saints. And there is nothing surprising about that. Through him God has performed and continues to perform astounding wonders and miracles, at which leading scientists and professors can only helplessly shake their heads…

Yussef Antoun Makhlouf was born in 1828 as the fifth and youngest child of his parents, Anton and Brigita. From early childhood he was drawn to fervent prayer and solitude. While his uncle Tanious wanted him to work with him and his mother wanted to marry him to a young woman, Yussef, at the age of 23, despite his family’s disapproval, quietly “disappeared” and left his home. He went to the monastery of St. Maron, took the name Charbel, and two years later made his solemn vows. He completely withdrew from the public and from his family and studied for the priesthood, becoming a priest in 1859. He found himself in monastic life. He was extraordinarily devoted to prayer, hard work, and contemplative silence.

Through his intercession many miracles take place.

Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

In 1899, Pope Leo XIII approved the Litany of the Sacred Heart for public use. This litany is in fact a synthesis of several other litanies dating back as far as the 17th century. Father Croiset compiled a litany in 1691, from which Anne Madeleine Remuzat used 17 invocations when she composed her litany in Marseilles in 1718. To Father Croiset’s invocations she added 10 more, making a total of 27 invocations. Another six invocations, written by Sister Madeleine Joly of Dijon in 1686, were added by the Congregation for Divine Worship when it approved it for public use in 1899. Thus, a total of 33 invocations was gathered, one for each year of the life of our Lord Jesus Christ. Partial indulgences are attached to this litany.

Source of the text: fisheaters.com; image: chcemsamodlit.sk

Litany of All Saints

The Litany of All Saints—the oldest of the litanies, dating to A.D. 595—is prayed liturgically at the Easter Vigil, during priestly ordinations, on Rogation Days, and also during solemn exorcisms. Privately it is prayed at any time, but especially after sunset on the feast of All Saints in preparation for All Souls’ Day and on All Souls’ Day itself.

These litanies first invoke God in all Three Persons, and then follow with invocations in this order: Mary; the blessed angels; Saint Joseph, patriarchs, and prophets; apostles and evangelists; all the disciples of the Lord; the Holy Innocents and glorious martyrs; holy bishops and confessors (those who suffer for the faith); holy priests and levites; virgins and widows; and all holy men and women.

Source of texts: fisheaters.com; image: catholicharboroffaithandmorals.com

Litany of the Most Precious Blood of Christ

The Litany of the Most Precious Blood of Christ gives honor to the Blood that our Lord shed for us during His Passion and that He offers to us in the Blessed Sacrament for our salvation.

It is important to realize that the Host, which we receive at Mass, is the true Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ! (Even though the wine received in Communion is “my blood of the new covenant,” as our Lord said at the Last Supper (Mark 14:24), the Host as Christ’s Body also contains the Lord’s Blood.)

The Litany of the Most Precious Blood of Christ was approved for public use in 1960 by Pope John XXIII, although devotion to the Precious Blood dates back centuries. Litany of Loreto

The Marian Litany of Loreto ("Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary"), whose present form dates to the 15th century, is prayed on Marian feasts, on Saturdays, and is often prayed at the end of the Rosary. It received its name from Loreto, a small town on the eastern coast of central Italy, in the Marche region. There is located the so-called Holy House of Loreto, a small house measuring about 8 by 4 meters and 4 meters high, with a door on the north side and a window on the west side.

According to tradition, this house is the place where Mary was born and where the archangel Gabriel announced the Annunciation to her. It is said that angels transported it from Nazareth to Dalmatia in present-day Croatia after the Saracens regained the Holy Land, and then to Loreto in 1291. The flight of Saint Gabriel from heaven during the Annunciation caused Our Lady of Loreto to be regarded as the patroness of aviators and air travelers - Charles Lindbergh, the Apollo 9 astronauts, and Umberto Nobile, who flew over the North Pole in the 1920s, all carried an image of Our Lady of Loreto with them.

Source of texts: fisheaters.com; image: virgosacrata.com

Litany of the Most Holy Name of Jesus

Throughout all of Sacred Scripture, God named or renamed those who had a great role in our salvation. As recorded in the fifth chapter of Genesis, He named the first man Adam, which means "Man of the earth," and changed the name of our spiritual Father from Abram to "Abraham," which means "Father of many nations."

And so the name "Jesus" also has its meaning: The Name of Him who is also known as "Emmanuel" ("God the Savior") is a transcription of the Hebrew name Yehoshua, or Joshua, and means "Yahweh is salvation."

The formalized devotion to the Holy Name is the fruit of the work of Saint Bernardino of Siena, from the years 1380-1444, a Franciscan who reformed his order and preached sermons throughout Italy. During these very popular sermons, he spoke of the veneration of Christ's Name and held up the monogram - the letters "IHS" (or "JHS") - surrounded by rays. This ancient monogram is a Latinization of the Greek monograms for Iesous Christos, "IH XP" and "IC XC", and became even more popular after Saint Bernardino encouraged a playing-card maker in Bologna to produce holy images instead of his usual wares. The apostolate of the Holy Name was also continued by Saint John of Capistrano, from the years 1385-1456, and we attribute the Litany of the Holy Name to both.

Honor the Holy Name of our Lord and use it with deep reverence.

Source of texts and image: fisheaters.com

Litany of St. Joseph

The Litany of Saint Joseph is one of the six litanies approved by the Church for both public and private use. It summarizes the qualities that made St. Joseph such an important member of the Holy Family.

Although he does not appear much in Scripture, this “just man” (as he is called in Matthew 1:19), a humble carpenter, served our Lord and the Blessed Virgin Mary faithfully.

Referring to Saint Joseph as Christ’s “watchful protector,” this litany reminds us of his important role in fleeing with Mary and Jesus into Egypt in order to protect our Lord from death at the hands of King Herod (Matthew 3:13–16).

St. Joseph is known as the “patron of the dying.” The faithful ask his help for workers, merchants and home sellers, and, of course, carpenters and many others!

Source: fisheaters.com; image: sunrisemarian.com

Litany to the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit, also called the Paraclete, is in the Christian faith the third Person of the Most Holy Trinity. In the Acts of the Apostles many outpourings of the Holy Spirit are mentioned, in which, together with the action of the Spirit, healings, prophecies, the casting out of demons (exorcism), and speaking in tongues (glossolalia) are associated. In art, the Holy Spirit is commonly depicted as a dove.

The promise of God the Father to those who will devoutly pray these litanies at least 3 times a week:

I will snatch you from the hands of the enemy in a visible way.

I will remove the obstacles that hinder you on the way to perfection.

I will add to you an angel, so that by inspiration he may protect you from the snares of sin.

You will persevere on the path of virtue.

You will come to know your shortcomings well.

You will receive the strength to free yourself from sinful habits.

I will strengthen in you faith, hope, and charity.

I will deliver you from material poverty.

Your family will live in harmony, in mutual love.

Whoever wishes to help his loved ones must pray these litanies daily for at least half a year.

Source of texts: nsgrotto.org; image: www.ctsbooks.org

The Annual Devotion of Saint Bridget

Saint Bridget long begged the Lord to make known to her how many blows He received during the time of His sorrowful Passion. One day the Savior appeared to her and said: "My body received 5,480 blows. If you wish to show Me special honor for them, then pray every day for one year fifteen Our Fathers and fifteen Hail Marys. To these add also the prayers which I shall teach you. After the year has passed, you will thus have honored each wound from those 5,480 blows." Then the Savior said to her: "Whoever performs this yearly devotion will save fifteen souls of his relatives from purgatory, fifteen souls of his kindred will obtain the gift of persevering in sanctifying grace, and fifteen sinners will be converted to a life of penance. The very person who prays these prayers will attain the first degree of perfection. Fifteen days before death I will give him My most pure Body, that he may be saved from eternal hunger, and My most pure Blood, that I may save his soul from eternal thirst. Before death I will visit him with My beloved Mother and lead him, enriched with graces, into eternal joy. There he will receive the gift of a special knowledge of My Divinity, unknown to those who do not perform these prayers. If anyone, even though he has lived in mortal sin for thirty years, devoutly performs this devotion or resolves to perform it, his sins will be forgiven, the power of God will protect him from evil temptations and from eternal damnation. And everything for which he asks God or the Most Holy Virgin Mary, the Divine Mercy will grant him. Whoever will teach these prayers also to others, his joy and merits will endure forever! In the place where these prayers are prayed, the Lord God is present with His grace." All the benefits mentioned were promised to Saint Bridget by the crucified Divine Savior Himself. The crucifix before which this happened is still found today in the Church of Saint Paul in Rome and is held in extraordinary veneration. If at all possible, this devotion should not be omitted even for a single day. If, however, serious obstacles make it impossible to say these prayers, the person concerned will not lose the graces connected with this devotion if, during that year, he later prays the omitted prayers.

The 12-Year Prayer of Saint Bridget

This prayer, as it was inspired by the Lord to Saint Bridget of Sweden, is to be prayed for 12 years. The Divine Savior further revealed to Saint Bridget the following promise: “Know that to those who for twelve years daily pray seven times the Our Father and the Hail Mary in honor of My most precious Blood, I will grant these graces:

1. They shall not come to Purgatory

2. I shall receive them among the martyrs as though they had shed their blood for the faith

3. To three relatives, according to the choice of the person concerned, I shall grant the grace of perseverance in the state of sanctifying grace

4. I shall preserve from hell the souls of his relatives up to the fourth generation

5. They shall be informed of the coming of death one month before it

If the person concerned should die before the completion of these twelve years, I shall nevertheless regard the conditions as fulfilled.” Pope Innocent X confirmed this revelation and added that the souls who fulfill these conditions shall each Good Friday deliver one soul from Purgatory. This devotion was approved by the Sacred Congregation Sacro Collegio de propaganta fide, as well as by Pope Clement XII. To the aforesaid seven prayers of the Our Father and the Hail Mary, the attached prayers may also be added.
