The 12-Year Prayer of Saint Bridget

This prayer, as it was inspired by the Lord to Saint Bridget of Sweden, is to be prayed for 12 years. The Divine Savior further revealed to Saint Bridget the following promise: “Know that to those who for twelve years daily pray seven times the Our Father and the Hail Mary in honor of My most precious Blood, I will grant these graces:

1. They shall not come to Purgatory

2. I shall receive them among the martyrs as though they had shed their blood for the faith

3. To three relatives, according to the choice of the person concerned, I shall grant the grace of perseverance in the state of sanctifying grace

4. I shall preserve from hell the souls of his relatives up to the fourth generation

5. They shall be informed of the coming of death one month before it

If the person concerned should die before the completion of these twelve years, I shall nevertheless regard the conditions as fulfilled.” Pope Innocent X confirmed this revelation and added that the souls who fulfill these conditions shall each Good Friday deliver one soul from Purgatory. This devotion was approved by the Sacred Congregation Sacro Collegio de propaganta fide, as well as by Pope Clement XII. To the aforesaid seven prayers of the Our Father and the Hail Mary, the attached prayers may also be added.

The 12-Year Prayer of Saint Bridget

Before the prayer

O Jesus, I desire now to pray seven times the Our Father and seven times the Hail Mary in union with that love with which Thou didst sanctify and sweeten this devotion in my heart. Receive it from my lips into Thy Divine Heart, improve and perfect it so that it may render to the Most Holy Trinity such honor and joy as Thou didst render to It on earth. May it overflow upon Thy most holy humanity for the glory of Thy holy wounds and precious blood which Thou didst shed for us.

1. Circumcision
Our Father; Hail Mary.

Eternal Father, through the immaculate hands of the Virgin Mary and through the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer Thee the first wounds, the first pains, and the first shedding of Jesus' blood for my sins, for the sins of the youth of all people, and for the prevention of the first mortal sins, especially among my relatives.

2. Mount of Olives
Our Father; Hail Mary.

Eternal Father, through the immaculate hands of the Virgin Mary and through the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer Thee the dreadful suffering of the Heart of Jesus on the Mount of Olives. I offer Thee every drop of His blood in reparation for my sins and for the sins of all people. Jesus, protect us from every sin and increase in us love for God and for our neighbor.

3. Scourging
Our Father; Hail Mary.

Eternal Father, through the immaculate hands of the Virgin Mary and through the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer Thee the thousands of wounds, the dreadful pains, and the precious blood which our Lord shed at the scourging, for my sins of the flesh and for the sins of all people. I beseech Thee, protect us from such sins and preserve our innocence.

4. Crowning with thorns
Our Father; Hail Mary.

Eternal Father, through the immaculate hands of the Virgin Mary and through the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer Thee the wounds, pains, and precious blood of the most holy Jesus, who for us was crowned with thorns. I offer this to Thee for my sins of the mind and for the sins of all people. I beseech Thee, protect us from such sins and grant us the grace to spread the kingdom of Christ on earth.

5. The Way of the Cross
 Our Father; Hail Mary.

Eternal Father, through the immaculate hands of the Virgin Mary and through the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer Thee His suffering on the Way of the Cross, especially His holy wound on the shoulder, as atonement for my sins and for the sins of all people. May His Way of the Cross be atonement for our resistance to the cross and to the holy commandments, as well as for all the sins of our tongue. Save us from such sins and teach us to love Thy holy cross.

6. Jesus' Crucifixion
 Our Father; Hail Mary.

Eternal Father, through the immaculate hands of the Virgin Mary and through the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer Thee Thy Divine Son on the cross, His crucifixion and His being raised up. I offer Thee His wounds in the hands and feet and the three streams of His most holy blood which were poured out for us. I offer Thee His poverty, His perfect obedience, all His sufferings of soul and body, His precious death and its unbloody renewal in all the holy Masses throughout the whole world as atonement for the violation of religious rules and vows; in satisfaction for my sins and the sins of all people, for the sick and the dying, for Thy priests and laity, for the intentions of the Holy Father, for the renewal of Christian families, for a strong faith, for our homeland, for the unity of nations in Christ and in His Church, as well as for Christians scattered throughout the world and for the souls in purgatory.

7. Piercing with the lance
 Our Father; Hail Mary.

Eternal Father, I beseech Thee, accept the precious water that flowed from the wound of the Divine Heart of Jesus for the needs of the holy Church and as reparation for the atonement of the sins of all mankind. O God, be gracious and merciful unto us. May the Blood of Christ, the precious content of His holy Heart, wash away my guilt and the guilt of all people. May the water from the side of Christ wash away for me the punishments for sins and quench the flames of purgatory for me and for all the souls in purgatory. Amen.
